The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 13, 2015

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

Craft Beer’s Growing Environmentalism (Everywhere, USA) – American craft beer is increasingly on the cutting-edge of sustainability and environmental issues. According to USA Today, The Alchemist in Vermont is now “capturing heat from boiling water and extracting carbon dioxide from the fermentation process.” Victory Brewing has recently begun recycling local rainwater and Sierra Nevada is now “powering their facilities with solar arrays.”

Anheuser-Busch Targets Millennials With New Digital Campaign (St. Louis, MO) – Craft beer is eating Big Beer’s lunch of late and Forbes is reporting that Anheuser-Busch is looking to shore up its fleeting millennial “cred” with a new young-end digital campaign. Interestingly enough, the Let’s Grab A Beer campaign counterintuitively sells the concept of beer in general, and not even their brand in particular.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 13, 2015Snap and Quaff (Ft Collins. CO) — New Belgium‘s Snapshot Pourtrait Contest, which runs now through May 15, celebrates not only their popular Wheat Ale but also those snapped and shared moments in life. All photos uploaded to Instagram and Twitter and tagged with #SnapshotWheat will be in the running to make it on New Belgium’s bottle back-labels. Fans can also upload photos at NewBelgium.com/SnapshotWheat. Photo favorites will also appear on the brewery’s social sites – assuming you all keep things clean.

Carlsberg Billboard Dispenses Beer (London, UK) – Talk about a tasteful billboard – we have to give props to Carlsberg Brewery for this brilliant idea. According to the Daily News the Copenhagen-based company put up an enormous ground-level billboard in East London last week that read “Probably the best poster in the world” above a tap that actually served up their beer to residents who noticed it.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 13, 2015Beer Week Alert! (Miami, FL) – As part of our ongoing effort to help you plan were you need to be drinking each and every week, Quick Hits runs regular “Beer Week Alerts” and there are several coming down the pike. Milwaukee Beer Week, Reno Craft Beer Week, Queens Beer Week are all kicking things off on April 18th and wrapping up on the 25th. And don’t overlook Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week which runs April 17th– 26th.
