THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSMore Craft Beer Crime (Atlanta, GA) –  If you’re already purchased one of SweetWater Brewing’sSummer Variety Packs we suggest that you hang on to it – because those 12-Packs might soon become super-collectable. The Atlanta Constitution is reporting that two refrigerated trailers carrying more than 78,500 bottles of SweetWater’s summer seasonal offering were stolen last week. According to company spokesperson (and ACB fav) Tucker Berta Sarkisian, the lion’s share of Atlanta’s 12-packs disappeared in last week’s pre-dawn “beer-jacking.” And although one-fourth of the stolen beer was found at a warehouse in Clayton County just south of Atlanta,” Sarkisian said it still a major loss, for a company of SweetWater’s size.

Is The Craft Beer Market Becoming Oversaturated? (USA) – Craft beer sales this year have risen at less than half the rate they did a year ago. And with more craft breweries than ever before, we might be suffering from own success. But Motley Fool suggests that things aren’t as dire as those numbers might suggest in Craft Beer Isn’t Dying and it’s a damn good read.

Words To Drink By (Ridgewood, NJ) – “Rock ‘n’ Roll is the sound of angels telling the truth.”

Jim Morrison – The Doors

Barnes & Noble Booksellers Expand Into Beer – What do you when your customers migrate from your once powerful bookstore locations to online outlets like Amazon? According to the Chicago Tribune Barnes and Noble will try to bolster their bottom line by introducing expanded food and beverage offerings (beer and wine) at four new concept stores. We suggest that the smarter move for Barnes & Noble might be opening bookstore popup outlets at high-flow craft beer destinations like Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens…just sayin’

The 700 (Sacramento, CA) – California has reached an historic milestone with more breweries than ever before currently online in California. According to the California Craft Brewers Association (CCBA) there are currently more than 700 craft breweries now in operation across the state. Wow…just wow.
