THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSCraft Beer Just Ups its Game (Los Angeles, CA) – Jeff Chenault is a Grammy-nominated graphic designer he’s also part of ACB’s executive team. He recently helped design super-clever craft beer-tasting game that’s the brainchild, of another ACB fav and LA denizen, Audra Quinn. Brew Ha Ha! is sort of like Cards Against Humanity meets Mad Libs, but, even better, because it’s all about BEER. You can check it out HERE and if you want to help them out before the end of June, 1st, you can lock up a debut copy of this very cool game.

Ska Goes Mod (Durango, CO) – After months in the works Ska Brewing has unveiled their new Mod Brewery, a separate spinoff from their primary brewery dedicated to small batch beers and blended creations. This new designer outlet now offers specialty one-off brews on eight rotating taps and experimental offerings on a year-round basis.

Words To Drink By (Milton, DE) – “There’s beer geeks and there’s beer snobs, and I’m a card-carrying, dyed-in-the-wool member of the beer geek community.”

                                                     Sam Calagione – Dogfish Head

SAVOR 2016 Fun Facts (Washington, DC) – America’s premier “craft beer & food experience” returns to the nation’s capital this weekend, June 3rd-4th, and if you were lucky enough to score tickets, here’s some fun “food/beer” facts you need to know about this year’s event.

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

  • 70% of 2016 breweries were not at SAVOR 2015 (53 of 76 breweries!)
  • 50% of the 76 breweries have never been in SAVOR (even better!)
  • 28 states and Washington, D.C. are represented
  • 20% of the participating breweries won an award at the 2016 World Beer Cup
  • 101,100 small bites will be prepared over two nights, so there should be plenty of food
  • 500+ pounds of artisanal cheeses will be served and an estimated 15,000 bites of cheese consumed over two days (like we said there will be lots to eat)
  • Some 3,100+ oysters will be shucked for this year’s SAVOR (and that’s no jive!)
