The American Craft Beer Drinkers Guide to Football Season – NFC Edition

Americans rejoice! Football season is upon us again and we here at ACB know what that means… MORE REASONS TO DRINK BEER ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT… along with the occasional Thursday and Saturday. And since we are all going to be inundated with commercial after commercial telling us why their mass market swill is better than the other guy’s mass market swill (hint: it’s not), we present to you real American craft beer picks for real American football.

Chicago Bears – Revolution Brewing (Chicago, IL) Da beers: Anti-Hero IPA is going to be a great beer for the beginning of the season, but the Eugene Porter might warm you up when those winds start blowing.

Detroit Lions – Founders Brewing(Grand Rapids MI)An All Day IPA will help get you through the workday tomorrow, but the Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale is perfect if you don’t give a shit.

Green Bay Packers – Titletown Brewing(Green Bay, WI) – Any diehard cheese head will be drinking the Johnny “Blood” Red, which carries the namesake of the Packers great Johnny “Blood” McNally.

Atlanta Falcons –Terrapin Beer(Athens, GA) -Most of football season is still pretty damn warm in Georgia and a Hopsecutioner IPA is the perfect beer to have on hand – and in hand for the big game. But if you don’t end your night with a Liquid Bliss Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, you are not an American and should not be watching football in the first place.

Carolina Panthers – Wicked Weed Brewing(Asheville, NC) -The Sweet Talker Session IPA is a great beer to get you through the night, but the Freak of Nature DIPA is the perfect beer if you want your palate to be hit as violently as a quarterback sack.

New Orleans Saints – NOLA – New Orleans Lager & Ale Brewing Company(New Orleans, LA) -To beat the humidity that is practically year-round inNOLA, their 7th St. Wheat fermented with lemon basil is a great choice and so is the Hurricane Saison… so drink both!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Cigar City(Tampa, FL) – The original buccaneers plundered Spanish ships throughout the Caribbean, and nothing says “I want yer booty” better than an Invasion Pale Ale. So grab a beer and your eye patch, sword and wench, and cheer your team to victARRRRy!

Dallas Cowboys – Deep Ellum Brewing Company(Dallas, TX) -What’s better than a Dallas Cowboy? A Dallas Cowgirl, of course. So grab a Deep Ellum Dallas Blonde and enjoy the show!

New York Giants – Brooklyn Brewery (Brooklyn, NY) – New York is the melting pot of the world. And what better example of the diversity than BLAST!Brooklyn uses both earthy English hops and bright citrusy American hops to create an IPA that Lady Liberty would be proud of.

Philadelphia Eagles – Victory Brewing Company(Downingtown, PA) – C’mon the brewery is called Victory… what better beer to drink when watching the game? You really can’t go wrong, but Twelve, Helios, and Donnybrook Stout are all good choices.

Washington Redskins – Flying Dog Brewery(Frederick, MD) – Made famous(er) from its True Blood cameo, Raging Bitch Belgian IPA is a Flying Dog staple worthy of any game day. Or better yet, pick up one of their variety packs and try them all!

Arizona Cardinals – Four Peaks Brewing Company(Tempe, AZ) – Four Peaks Sunbru Kölsch is a great way to beat the AZ heat. Then again, there is the Kilt Lifter… because Kilt Lifter is a damn good name for a damn good beer.

San Francisco 49ers – Anchor Brewing Company(San Francisco, CA) -If you are in the Bay Area watching the Niners, chances are it’s foggy as hell out, so what better beer than Old Foghorn, one of the first revivals of an English Barleywine in the US?

Seattle Seahawks – Elysian Brewing (Seattle, WA) -While it might seem counterproductive todrink a beer called Loser when you’re rooting for your team, the subtitle “Corporate Beer Still Sucks” is something that we can get behind, football superstitions be damned.

St. Louis Rams – Schlafly Beer(St. Louis, MO) -Football season is scheduled to start on Thursday, September 4th and given how cool it’s been this summer, it might already be snowing in St. Louis. So stay in, watch the game, and drink a Schlafly Oatmeal Stout to warm the hell up!

So, there you have it, ACB’s “draught picks” for the NFC! So support your team with pride and while you’re doing that, support your local craft brewers!

And stay tuned for our take on the best breweries in the AFC…
