The American Craft Beer 2013 Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1

With the holidays fast upon us, we thought it might be helpful to highlight some of this seasons more interesting craft beer gift ideas for that beer lover on your list. So we turned to our American Craft Beer correspondents for suggestions and we got so many great ideas back that we were forced to divide our guide into three parts this year.

So welcome to Part 1 of this year’s Holiday Shopping Guide….

, The American Craft Beer 2013 Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1Lindsey Evans is one of our Pacific Northwest correspondents and she tirelessly covers the Seattle craft beer scene for us at ACB. She tipped us to Growler Crates and we have to admit, they do look pretty awesome. We’ve written about beer crates in the past and found most of them useful but utilitarian at best. Growler Crates are a whole different ball game. These beautifully designed, handcrafted acacia-wood crates are built with individual compartments to ensure that your growlers enjoy a snug, spill-free journey wherever you end up taking them. Serious craft beer deserves a fine ride and now it has one.

, The American Craft Beer 2013 Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1DC Steve is based in the nation’s capital. He’s actually a legitimate reporter/journalist for a major publication that will necessarily go unnamed, as all hell would break loose if his organization ever found out that he was slumming with us! DC Steve is also a gadget guy and every year, he recommends cool bottle openers. This year, he’s psyched about the Critter Cutter bottle opener. Shaped like a small Central American creature, this compact opener is actually several tools. Its features include a pry bar, a church key, a twist-off bottle option, a box cutter, and can top punch. Critter Cutter is a perfect stocking-stuffer and it can easily attach to your key ring – plus it’s made in America and we’re all about that!

Zach Mack runs the Alphabet City Beer Company in lower Manhattan (and he writes for us when he can) and he likes the simplicity of Brooklyn Brew Shop’s online approach to shopping for homebrewing supplies. Zach explains that they make the art of brewing both accessible and understandable and that they’re a great place to start for anyone who’s new to the process. The site itself is easy to navigate and they sell everything you’ll need to get going!

, The American Craft Beer 2013 Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1Lindsay Snyder is one of our stolid Midwest correspondents. She’s based in Madison, Wisconsin, and like any Midwesterner, she understands that in order to enjoy your craft beer all winter long, you’ve got to be prepared. And that’s where the original Hanskie™ comes in. Hanskie™ is the brand name for a Scandinavian beer holder/glove that’s made from sheep hair and functions to keep your hands warm while drinking beer on the frozen tundra.

Jeff Chenault is our creative director based out of Baltimore. He comes to us from the music industry, has done graphics for some very big-name artists, and he’s a big part of why ACB looks so good. We think that’s one of the reasons that Jeff sent us a link to Duffy’s Brew – they’re all about looking good too. You see, Duffy’s Brew makes craft beer shampoo and conditioners that are all formulated using serious beer as a key ingredient. Be sure to check out their vaguely soft-core retro website while you’re at it – coolness personified!
