Roadtrippin’ – Chicagoland Vol. 1

For those times when you’re traveling through Chicago via O’Hare Airport and have an extended layover or are stranded for the night, here’s the perfect itinerary to keep your spirits up.

, Roadtrippin’ – Chicagoland Vol. 1Start your adventure off just a few miles from the airport at Hofbräuhaus in Rosemont. A replica of the legendary German brewery and beer hall in Munich, this is the perfect spot to grab a refreshing Bavarian lager and a big, juicy bratwurst or soft pretzel to coat your stomach for the next few hours.

Whether you’re a scratch golfer or a total duffer, you’ll have a blast at Top Golf. About 20 minutes west of Hofbräuhaus in Wood Dale, this complex offers three decks of golf entertainment using micro-chipped golf balls and a 300-yard outfield with dartboard-esque targets. Food and drinks are available, and each hitting bay includes seating and powerful overhead heaters so you can play year-round.

A few blocks down the road in Itasca, you can find Church Street Brewing, a fast-growing brewery that is making sessionable German-style beers stylish again in the Chicago craft scene. Taproom hours are limited, so check their site before you head over. You don’t want to miss out on these crisp, delicious brews.

, Roadtrippin’ – Chicagoland Vol. 1Ten minutes from the brewery in Addison you’ll find Bigby’s Pour House, one of the best craft beer bars in all of Chicagoland. Owner Ed Simbol travels the country in search of the best beers to deliver to his customers and never disappoints. The relaxed vibe makes you feel like you’re hanging in a friend’s basement, and you can even cast votes for beers you’d like them to have available for your next visit.

Before heading back to O’Hare, you’d be a damn fool if you didn’t dive into a steaming hot local pizza. Luckily, Home Run Inn is only a block away from Bigby’s. Since 1947, they’ve been making amazing pizzas with buttery, flaky crusts, fresh ingredients, and homemade Italian sausage. My personal favorite is the pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom combo. Order a larger size so you have leftovers for the plane ride.
