Newbies – New Releases You Want to Look Out For

So many beers, So little time… Narragansett Beer traditionally isn’t known for craft beer – but maybe they should be. We’ve that story for you and other cool new releases from The Commons Brewery and Firestone Walker’s Barrelworks that you absolutely need to know about!

, Newbies – New Releases You Want to Look Out ForNarragansett Hits the Craft Beach (Providence, RI) – Narragansett Beer continues to celebrate the summer with the latest addition to their Private Stock Series of 22 oz. craft offerings.Narragansett Town Beach Imperial IPA is a balanced 8.1% ABV Imperial Pale Ale that was actually brewed by award-winning Brewmaster Sean Larkin at Buzzard’s Bay Brewing in Massachusetts. This special-edition “craft” IPA features a label reminiscent of early 20th century packaging in homage to Narragansett’s 124-year history, but we expect that the beer’s much fresher than that.

Black Currants Run Deep (Portland, OR) – Our friends at The Commons Brewery released their newest seasonal earlier this week and we can’t wait to get our sweaty little hands on it! Modeled after the French cocktail Kir Royale, Biere Royale is a sour ale with black currants that was first brewed as a popular, draft-only beer for the Portland Fruit Beer Festival. The bottled version uses a house-grown Lactobacillus culture that was originally harvested from yogurt. Black currants lend an additional acidity, fruitiness, and a deep purple hue to the final brew that is available now in 750ml bottles and in limited draft quantities at their tasting room as well as on retail shelves until mid-August.

, Newbies – New Releases You Want to Look Out ForBootlegger’s Rocking It Red (Fullerton, CA) – Bootlegger’s Brewery has just announced the newest addition to their growing core beer lineup. Bootlegger’s Rocco Red is a 7.1% ABV full-bodied American Red Ale that has been served in the brewery’s tasting room for a few years but up until now, had never been bottled. Rocco Red is available now on draft and in 22 oz. bottles – so you know what to do.

, Newbies – New Releases You Want to Look Out ForFrom Prussia With Love (Buellton, CA) – Firestone Walker’s Barrelworks operation has just brewed up a Napoleonic favorite of historic proportions. Firestone Walker Bretta Weisse is a Berliner Style wheat beer that underwent secondary fermentation with a proprietary mixed culture of brettanomyces and lactobacillus. Prior to bottling, Bretta Weisse was aged for eight months in 1,700-gallon French oak foeders. The final blend clocks in at 4.9% ABV. Only 350 cases of 500ml bottles were produced, and the beer will only be available at Barrelworks.

Two New Beers Join Widmer’s Historic Series (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers has just released two new beers to commemorate the years 1992 and 1993, respectively, as part of their 30 Beers for 30 Years Series. Widmer Doppelbock is a traditional strong German-style lager that uses heavy portions of dark malts. And Widmer Ur-Alt is a legend for Widmer Brothers because it replicates the very first batches of Altbier ever produced by Kurt and Rob in the earliest days of the brewery. Both beers will be available throughout July and early August in the Portland area only. Like all beers in the 30 Beers for 30 Years Series, an extremely limited quantity of each beer was brewed and packaged with custom labels for sale in 22 oz. bottles and on draught.
