Newbies – New Releases to Look Out For – October 3, 2013

So many beers, So little time…With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets…So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!

Heavy Seas Battens Down the Hatches (Baltimore, MD) – Heavy Seas Beer is readying itself for serious weather with its newest release. A 2010 World Cup Award Winner, Winter Storm Category 5 Ale is a 7.5% ABV Imperial Extra Special Bitter (ESB) brewed with British Hops and not for the fainthearted.

Hey Dude (Asheville, VA) – The Center of the Universe Brewing Company is poised to release a special beer that’s been a year in the making! El Duderino is a “White Russian Stout” inspired by slackers, sweaters, eccentric friends, and exotic drinks (the White Russian to be exact). This decadent chocolate milk stout was piloted and tested at the brewery countless times to ensure they got it right, and their November 1st release promises to be worth the wait.

A Beer to Aid the Cure (Santa Rosa, CA) – Russian River’s barrel-aged Sour Ale, Framboise For A Cure 2013, was released Tuesday and is currently available at the pub on draft and in bottles to go. Our friend Vinnie Cilurzo makes this very special beer solely for fundraising efforts to help people in their battle with breast cancer. Last year’s release netted nearly $40,000.

More Lunacy From Dogfish Head (Milton, DE) – Sam Calagione and the Dogfish Head crew are known to have scoured the globe to come up with some of their unusual ingredients used in so many of their beers – but a recent brewpub release of theirs has taken things to new heights. Celest-jewel-ale is made with lunar meteorites that have been crushed into dust, and then steeped like tea in a rich Oktoberfest that lends this traditional German style a lunar earthiness.

Long Trail Goes Full-On Fall (Bridgewaters Corners, VT) – Leaves have just started to turn up in Vermont, and Long Trail Brewing has just released three fall seasonals to celebrate the changing seasons. The 8% ABV Imperial Pumpkin is the first offering in their Brush and Barrel series of handcrafted brews. Harvest Ale is brewed with local Vermont ingredients – a perfect companion for those first chilly nights. Black Rye IPA drinks like nights by the fire and is the sixth release in their popular Brown Bag Series.

, Newbies – New Releases to Look Out For – October 3, 2013Yards Likes Tarts (Philadelphia, PA) – The Yards Brewing Company is known to be fond of tarts and they’re bringing that affection to their newest release. Yards PYNK Tart Berry Ale is a light, effervescent 5.5 % ABV ale brewed with over 3,000 pounds of fresh raspberries and both sour and sweet cherries. And Yards is donating $1 from every case of PYNK sold in the months of September and October to The Tyanna Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to increase awareness and generate funding for research, education, and treatment for breast cancer patients and survivors.

The Falconer Returns (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers has announced this year’s return of a popular special release brewed as a tribute to the late Oregon brewing legend Glen Hay Falconer. Falconer’s IPA is brewed as an aggressively hopped Northwest IPA that features Falconer’s namesake hop blend from HopUnion: Falconer’s Flight. A portion of the proceeds of Falconer’s IPA benefits the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, which provides educational opportunities and scholarships for aspiring and professional brewers.
