So many beers, So little time…With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets…So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!
Visit Davy Jones Lager (Baltimore, MD) – In yet another brilliant play on words from a brewery that knows how to have fun, Heavy Seas Beer has just issued an open invitation to their fans to make a summertime visit to Davy Jones Lager. Brewed using an old technique that used to be called “Steam” Beer, Heavy Seas used lager yeast fermented at ale temperatures to create a creamy smoothness like no other. Look for this lager to surface in cans in early June.
Gentleman’s Club X3 (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers Brewing Co. has announced more details for its Gentlemen’s Club trio of collaboration beers with Cigar City Brewing. This collaboration brings together two breweries from opposite ends of the country and uses ingredients from the home states of both breweries. Using an Old Ale recipe as the base beer, Gentlemen’s Club was brewed with cherries and oranges; Alchemy, Sorachi Ace, and Pacifica hops; and hand-selected specialty malts to mirror the qualities typically found in the traditional Old Fashioned cocktail. The beer was aged on three different woods: bourbon barrels, rye whiskey barrels, and new oak spirals, resulting in three unique versions of the beer, each offering a slightly different take on the same age-old recipe.
Lakewood Gets Legendary (Garland, TX) – The Lakewood Brewing Company just announced the second release in their Legendary Series, which honors various figures from local and Belgian myths. La Dame du Lacis a traditional farmhouse ale and itpays homage to the urban legend of White Rock’s Lady of the Lake. This limited-release beer will be available on draft first (it launches at 5 pm tonight at the Common Table), then in 22 oz. bottles shortly thereafter. Don’t miss it as it rolls out across craft beer bars and stores in North Texas.
Alaskan Gives Us the Raspberry (Juneau, AK) – Summer’s finally arrived in Southeast Alaska and so has the Alaskan Brewing Company’s eagerly anticipated Alaskan Raspberry Wheat Ale. First unveiled in 2010 as the inaugural brew in Alaskan’s Pilot Series, this ale proved so popular that the brewery has released it in early summer every year since.Alaskan Raspberry Wheat is an American-style wheat ale brewed with more than 3,000 pounds of real raspberries added during fermentation.
More Stone Enjoy By (Escondido, CA) – Stone Brewing Company has announced the latest markets for the next rendition in the series: Stone Enjoy By 07.04.13 IPA. The lucky markets getting it this time around include: Southern California, Northern California, Missouri, Texas, and Washington. It should hit markets on/around Wednesday, June 5th, and consumers will have a chance to buy it through Independence Day before it is pulled from shelves.
Weyerbacher Gets Even More Selective (Easton, PA) – Weyerbacher Brewing Company’s second installment in the new Brewers’ Select series is ready for release, and we’re psyched to get our hands on it! Weyerbacher Aquila (named after a Northern-hemisphere constellation) is a 7.1% ABV hoppy Belgian Farmhouse-style beer that will debut on draft exclusively at the Weyerbacher Visitors Center on May 31.
Like A Moth to A Flame (Portsmouth, NH) – Smuttynose Brewing has announced the newest release in their Short Batch series. Smuttynose Luna Moth Hoppy Saison features El Dorado hops as a dry hopping agent. This very limited release is scheduled to ship in early June, so you know what to do!
