, Newbies – New Releases to Look Out ForA Summer Box Set Sleeper (Downingtown, PA) – Summer box sets just keep getting more inventive and sometimes, they’re the only places you can find hard-to-find beers. Victory Brewing released a great summer box set that we almost missed and it’s still out there now – but won’t be much longer. Victory Summer Selections 12-Pack is basically a session-beer sampler that features their summertime seasonal, Victory Summer Love, along with their popular Victory Whirlwind Witbier. It also features two hard-to-get Hop Ticket Series offerings, Hop Ticket Dry Hopped Pils and Hop Ticket Session IPA. This is a great box set people – so don’t miss out.

The Dog Days of Early Fall (Chico, CA) – Sierra Nevada Brewing has just returned a “transition seasonal” that they introduced for the first time last year. Sierra Nevada Flipside Red IPA is a 6.2% ABV late summer/early fall release that they brewed for that subtle yet inescapable change of season, and the 2014 version (which we sampled last night) is even better than last year’s brew.

Previously only a draft offering, Bootlegger’s Soco IPA is a West Coast-Style India Pale Ale that is brewed using generous amounts of late edition new American hops. Look for it to debut in bottles this Friday, August 1 at the brewery’s tasting room. It should begin hitting shelves the following week if the gods are good.

, Newbies – New Releases to Look Out ForThree for Thirty (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers Brewing has three new beers coming out as part of their brewery’s 30 Beers for 30 Years Series and each beer commemorates a particular year in their history. Widmer Widberry is a weizenbier brewed with local black raspberries that was originally introduced in 1994 and reached a level of popularity that no one at the brewery anticipated. Widmer Blackbier is a take on the German Schwarzbier style that was originally introduced in 1995 and is a favorite among the brewhouse veterans. Widmer Big Ben Porter represents the year 1996 and was one of the first craft beers that caused a dispute with the government over legal beer descriptions. These limited-release beers, brewed to commemorate the brewery’s 30th anniversary, will be available in the Portland area beginning this week.
