Newbies – 5 New Craft Beers You Need To Check Out – August 20, 2015

So many beers- So little time… This week’s newbies hints of summer’s end and we’ve a number interesting new offerings that you’ll want to chase down…Plus we’ve some new releases from Ommegang and Newburyport Brewing that sound serious as well.

, Newbies – 5 New Craft Beers You Need To Check Out – August 20, 2015Dreadful (Seattle, WA) – Elysian released something dreadful this summer that’s worthy of chasing down before it disappears entirely. The Dread is a 9.25% oak-aged Imperial Stout with a grist of pale, C-77 Crystal, black and chocolate malts with roasted barley, flaked rye and sugar. Available in 22oz bombers and on draft this monster was bittered with Magnum and finished with Northwest Chinook hops – so you’ve been warned.

Malted Melt (Newburyport, MA) – Newburyport Brewing has a sessionable year-round that you need to check out. NBPT’s Melt Away Session IPA is a 4.6% refresher with a light malt sweetness and a crisp easy finish. And was brewed to pair perfectly with another.

Continuing Unification (Denver, CO) – River North Brewery released something special last weekend but only 75 cases were bottled – so you need to move on this.Grand Unified Theory takes River North’s oak-aged imperial Witbier, Unified Theory and furthers the aging process in Boulevardier cocktail barrels – formerly holding whiskey, vermouth, and bitter liqueur.

, Newbies – 5 New Craft Beers You Need To Check Out – August 20, 2015Two Game of Thrones Beers Return In September (Cooperstown, NY) – Ommegang is returning first two titles from their pop-savvy Game of Thrones Series. Originally released in 2013, Iron Throne Blonde Ale’s first run was only 25% of the volume of the most recent beer, Three-Eyed Raven, so its return will be welcome. The highly rated Take the Black Stout will also be returning this fall but unfortunately Jon Snow will not.

The Late-Summer Pumpkin Parade Continues (Seattle, WA) – Whether we like it or not, breweries keep bringing out their seasonals earlier and earlier and Redhook Brewery has just released one. One of the brewery’s best-selling seasonals, Redhook “Out of Your Gourd” Pumpkin Porter is a lightly-hopped and full-bodied 5.8% ABV fall brew that they’ve released just in time for your next trip to the beach or backyard cookout.
