When Aaron Artman, President of the Tacoma Rainiers and Event Chair for the South Sound Heart Walk, approached American Brewing Company to form a team for the walk, founder Neil Fallon said that they could do even better.

Neil Young said it in 1971 when he released "Heart of Gold", "The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" has a spaceship named "S.S. Heart of Gold", and now our friends at American Brewing Company are releasing a Kolsch that will share the moniker. But this is no regular Kolsch, this is a Kolsch for a cause.

Artman, as the event coordinator, has pledged that the South Sound Heart Walk will meet a fundraising goal of $240,000, so he did what he needed to do: he looked for a little help from his friends. One of the first people he looked to was Neil Fallon from American Brewing Company. So Neil turned to his vendors (Great Western Malting, Hop Union) and Skip Madsen (American's Head Brewer) to make it happen. The vendors came through by donating the ingredients and Skip came through with the elbow grease and the outcome was American Brewing Company's "Heart of Gold" German Style Kolsch.

A 30 barrel batch of the "heart healthier" beer, netting approximately 24 kegs, is on its way to 17 of South Puget Sound restaurants and pubs for you to enjoy. On Wednesday, July 18th you can purchase a pint (or four) of the "Heart of Gold" Kolsch with 100% of proceeds going to the South Sound Heart Walk. That's right, 100%, sounds like a pretty good deal to us. So make it happen, taste this limited release and raise money for a heart healthy America!
