Holiday Newbies

So many holiday beers, Too little time…You may be over all these winter seasonals and special holiday releases – but we’re not at ACB. And like it or not, we’ve more beers that will pair insanely well with that fruitcake that you’ve been unable to get rid of – and we’re not backing off until February!

, Holiday NewbiesSleighed (Eugene, OR) – Those of you who read us regularly (and we can’t imagine why you wouldn’t), know that we’re totally in the tank for Ninkasi Brewing and we’re fans of their winter seasonal too. Ninkasi’s Sleigh’r is a dark 7.2% ABV Doüble Alt Ale that’s malty, rich, and perfect for keeping the winter winds at bay.

Yule Love It (San Diego, CA) – One of craft beer’s most coveted winter releases is brewed by our friends at AleSmith Brewing and it’s out there now. The cold-weather companion to their popular seasonal series, AleSmith YuleSmithis an 8.5% ABV malt-forward Imperial Red that pours deep copper and lingers like a late-night fire.

Another County Over (Lexington, KY) – West Sixth Brewing has just released the next beer in their limited-edition County Series – but it will not be available for long. West Sixth Nicholas County is their 11% ABV dark spiced Christmas Ale that has been aged in bourbon barrels. And since they’ve only 235 bottles, you need to move now.

, Holiday NewbiesA Classic Celebration (Chico, CA / Mills River, NC) – Craft beer icons like New Belgium’s Kim Jordon claim that this Sierra Nevada early-winter release is their go-to holiday beer – and we couldn’t agree with them more. First brewed in 1981, Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA is one of a very few, hop-forward holiday beers – and because it’s a fresh-hop – it’s subtly different every year!

A Winter Road Less Taken (Placentia, CA) – The 7th beer in The Bruery’s12 Days of Christmas Series takes a different route entirely. Forgoing all the seasonal bells and whistles, 7 Swans-A-Swimming is a straight-forward Belgian Quad, brewed with nothing but water, malt, yeast, hops, and a bit of Belgian dark candi sugar. This 11% ABV Belgian-style Ale may not be as out-of-the-box as some of their past winter efforts, but it’s refreshingly free of all those cloying holiday spices.
