Beercentric Eats – Growlers Beer Bistro

, Beercentric Eats – Growlers Beer BistroGrowlers Beer Bistro has become the standard for craft beer centered bars and restaurants in Westchester County. It boasts an impressive list of credentials including several “Best of Westchester” awards, a “Best Beer Focused Restaurant” mention and has recently garnered a reputation for serving delicious craft cocktails as well.

As a lifelong Westchester resident I am proud of what Growlers has accomplished, not just because bartending there was my first job out of college but also because the county never had a strong reputation for interesting food, creative cocktails or, most importantly, craft beer. Growlers blended all of those factors in a unique, cozy, BBQ-chic setting featuring wooden tables, black and white hop farm photos and growlers from different breweries sitting on a ledge.

You won’t find Budweiser, Coors Light or even a Sam Adams anywhere in the building because owner Eric Lorberfeld is dedicated to the term “craft” and everything that it stands for.

, Beercentric Eats – Growlers Beer BistroHe hand selects all the beers that make it onto the 17 constantly rotating draft lines, including a cask conditioned offering served by hand pump (all taps are available for to-go in a large or small sized growlers). The list, at times, boasts beers from all over the world but always has a focus on American craft and an even greater focus on local beer brewed in the tri-state area.

Growlers has always looked for the next new brewery in NY and has, at times, been the first bar to introduce Westchester to rare beers. They also have an impressive bottle and can list so if you can’t find your preferred style on the big draft board you’ll be sure to not be thirsty for long.

If you’re not in the mood for beer I would recommend any of the red wines served on tap, whites from the bottle or any of the well-designed craft cocktails made only with craft distilled spirits.

So, if you have great beer you’re going to need to pair it with some delicious food and Growlers does that with style. Make sure you start with a fresh hot pretzel bread served with grain mustard, the hush puppies stuffed with diced jalapenos, the devils on horseback (prunes stuffed with bleu cheese and wrapped in bacon) or my personal favorite, the artichoke spread.

After your “snack” make sure to move on to any of their sandwiches featuring in-house smoked meats such as brisket, pulled pork or chicken. You also can’t go wrong by spicing up your order with the signature “Growlers Fries” which are french fries tossed in garlic, parmesan cheese and topped with bacon.

Growlers is one of the best craft beer bars in Westchester because of their commitment to craft beer and quality food. The beers are hand selected with the customer in mind and the knowledgeable “certified beer server” staff will know where to steer you if the draft list ever becomes too intimidating.

Located next to the Tuckahoe train station it’s an easy trip for those living in the city to gain entrance to a gem of Westchester. Go in for a beer, enjoy the food and make sure you leave with a growler.
