Valentine’s Day is this Sunday, and if you’ve not yet purchased something for that special person in your life – we’re here (once again) to bail you sorry ass out. Thankfully craft beer is now a more perfect a Valentine’s Gift than ever before – right up there with flowers and chocolates.
And we’ve 5 romantic suggestions for you…
Pasión Peppermint Porter – Big Bend Brewing (Alpine, TX) – Velvet smooth and dark as a moonlit night, Big Bend’s Valentine seasonal is a southern English Porter with gracious deep chocolate and peppermint tones and a wonderfully warming finish. The label art was features a romantic image from Texas artist Tom Curry.
My Bloody Valentine Ale – AleSmith (San Diego, CA) – Some relationships are innately volatile and all-consuming – and there’s only one beer for that. AleSmith My Bloody Valentine Ale is a 6.66% Red Ale with a rich crimson color that’s sweet (but never too sweet) and just a bit unforgiving.
Westbrook Chocolate Raspberry Imperial Stout – Westbrook Brewing (Mount Pleasant, SC) – Chocolate and fresh berries have long been a Valentine’s Day staple – and they both lusciously tone this limited edition 10.5% ABV Imperial. Brewed to commemorate their half-decade in the biz, Westbrook 5th Anniversary Chocolate Raspberry Imperial pretty much defines Sunday’s celebration.
Marooned on Hog Island – 21St Amendment (San Francisco, CA) – Long treasured for their alleged aphrodisiac qualities, oysters have their own very special place in the Valentine’s Day pantheon and that’s what this beer’s all about. Named with a nod to an historic shipwreck that left sailors on one of the San Francisco Bay’s outer islands, 21st Amendment Brewery, Marooned on Hog Island is an empowering (but never overpowering) 7.9% Oyster Stout, that’s guaranteed to keep things festive.
The Love – Starr Hill Brewing Company (Crozet, VA) – Elegant in its simplicity, this beer says it all. Straightforward and comparatively sessionable, Starr Hill’s The Love is a 5.1% unfiltered Hefeweizen with an appropriately fruity aroma and a Valentine’s Day-like “spicy finish.”
