“Too Many Brewers Right Now want to be the Lady Gaga of Beer… I want to be Tom Waits."
An Interview with High & Mighty’s Will Shelton
High & Mighty's Will Shelton once played with Jesus H Christ and The Four Hornsmen Of The Apocalypse...
We hung out with a lot of interesting people while we were down at Snallygaster, DC’s awesome new craft beer festival, which recently took place in the Nation’s capital. That’s where we connected with High & Mighty’s Will Shelton, a man who knows his music and his beer.
Will Shelton’s an interesting guy…as part of Shelton Brothers, a company that focused on importing the best beers from small and many times overlooked overseas brewers, he knows his beer.
He’s also had his share of success as a musician and band member. He once played with Jesus H Christ and The Four Hornsmen Of The Apocalypse and they released a song called “Connecticut’s for F**king” which went on to generate #1 phone requests on Sirius Radio’s Alt Nation channel for more weeks than any song in that station’s history! So yes, Will Shelton knows his music.
And now he’s heading High & Mighty Beer Company up in Easthampton, Massachusetts…and he’s doing great things there too.
In June 2008, Will Shelton began to focus on making American beer that added an American attitude to the best of European beer styles.High & Mighty Beer Company began back in 2006 as an offshoot of Shelton Brothers, when Will first took his idea for a different kind of German-style ale to Paper City Brewery in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The result was Beer of the Gods and it went on to become an extraordinary commercial success!
Will soon discovered that he enjoyed selling the beer he brewed even more than he did the great beers that Shelton Brothers imports, so in June 2008, he abandoned his brother to focus on making American beer that added an American attitude to the best of European beer styles. The beer is still made at Paper City, but High & Mighty Beer will soon be opening its own brewery in January 2013.
Will Shelton was busy serving up his wares to long lines of Snallygaster celebrants when we first connected, but was kind to step away and do this video with us…
So here it is Interview in all its unexpurgated glory….…..
