5 More Sanity Saving Winter Ales For The Holidays

Due to the widely reported accounts of rapturous jubilance and reduced madness throughout America following our Winter Warmer edition of the “What The Hell” series and our subsequent publishing of 5 more Winter Ales, we have no choice but to give the public more of what they demand.

Sure, plenty of folks out there have already picked up this year’s varieties of Goose Island’s Bourbon County (everybody , 5 More Sanity Saving Winter Ales For The Holidaysseems pretty excited about it on the internet) but many of us aren’t down with Black Friday lines to buy craft beer. So here are five different well-crafted beers we suggest as a brief escape from the madness of the holidays, without having to stand in line… hopefully.

Anchor Brewery, Christmas Ale 2015 (San Francisco, CA) – We feel pretty good about endorsing this one as Anchor’s celebrating their 41st edition of this Holiday classic. The recipe and the label art change every year, plus it’s generally in line with the darker, spiced Winter Warmer style. It weighs in at 5.5% ABV and is a welcome pour in anyone’s mug this holiday season.

The Bruery, 7 Swans A Swimming (Placentia, CA) – The 7th beer in The Bruery’s  “12 Days of Christmas” series, this time they present us with a big, brewed to style Belgian-style Quadrupel. Weighing in at a hefty , 5 More Sanity Saving Winter Ales For The Holidays11% ABV, this sweet treat offers loads of raisin, apricots and roasted pecans from nothing more than well chosen malts, hops and Belgian dark candi sugar. We’ll take two please…

New Holland Brewing, Cabin Fever (Holland, MI) – As the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, those in the Great Lakes know how to deal with being stuck inside most of the winter. What makes New Holland’s winter brown ale a unique offering it’s lighter brown style, colored by roasty rye and nutty malt flavors, plus it’s caramel sweetness balanced with a drier finish. 6% ABV.

Southern Tier Brewing, Old Man Winter (Lakewood, NY) – This Old Al e from the pumpkin kings of New York is an easy drinker. Bringing to the party semi-sweet cocoa, plus  nutty and earthy  flavors offer a balanced profile with a larger than average, 5 More Sanity Saving Winter Ales For The Holidays hop dose for the style. Careful though, this old man packs a punch at 7% ABV and might just catch you off guard by it’s depth and balance.

Terrapin Beer Co., Moo-Hoo (Athens, GA) – Straying off the path a bit from the traditional winter warmer style, Terrapin offers up this delicious chocolate milk stout. At 6% with plenty of oats and roasted barley for added richness, this Southern winter warmer is a creamy, chocolaty delight. The only difficulty with this one is keeping enough around to share!
